Kids Need Space, Too: 3 Storage Solutions for Playtime Bliss

Milestones.

Being a parent means tackling milestones together with your little one. We keep such records of their progress: first tooth, first word, first step. All of these make it all exciting. As the milestones stack up, your bundle of joy is growing little by little. No matter how cute it may seem, there is nothing in this world as tiring - and as satisfying at the same time -  as dealing with toddlers.

We know how fun it is playing with toddlers. We also know how not fun tidying up a room and stepping on Lego blocks are. So, Urban Sales with IKEA has devised a solution keep your toddler’s room as tidy, organised, and uncluttered as can be.

Toy Story

Toys are most important to toddlers. Even more important than food. Or taking a bath. Playing with their toys is when their exploration of the world begins. It is when the bulk of their learning about how things work happen.

There is this kid named Gerald. He is three years old and like any little man, he likes playing with toys that has wheels and wings. Behold, in his room were assembled train sets and car tracks with  loops and sweepers. He just started to make progress from munching on, and throwing, Lego blocks to actually building stuff with it.

After a long day of playing, he was stumped. So off to dreamland, Gerald goes. Dear old dad’s job was cleaning up the toys after his little man. After five minutes of cleaning, dad suppressed what otherwise would have been a loud “Ouch!”. He stepped on several pieces of nibbled-on Legos. After that incident, dad put all Gerald’s toys in one chest. All of them. The next morning, when gerald wanted his train set, mom struggled to find the rails to complete it.

The very next day, mom and dad bought the IKEA TROFAST frame and bought color coded storage boxes with it. Now the toys are now in their respective places, building blocks no longer being stepped on, train sets with complete rails, and little Gerald is learning the first thing in organisation.

The neighbours heard of this and they bought a different type. The TROFAST storage combination in their daughters room to take good care of dolls, cook sets, doctor sets, and whichever toy sets you could ever think of, the TROFAST has you covered.

The IKEA FLISAT, on the other hand, offers a less conventional way of keeping toys. For a young lass, a wall shelf the shape of a doll house means hours of enjoyment. She might even enjoy putting her toys away if it means she can arrange how her toys would look like on the shelf. For lads, a box with wheels is the most basic form of transportation (cars) his toys will get from one place to another. And he’ll pretend to drive it when his toys are too busy playing (read: scattered around).

Junior Wardrobe

Clothes are at the bottom of the hierarchy with kids. First comes toys, food, naps, more food, and more naps. It is only when they take a bath that clothes are de rigueur. And that is if only your toddler makes bath time easy.

When all else is a success and it is time to dress up your toddler for an afternoon at the park, or lunch with the grandparents, it is always nice to have a wardrobe just their size. Clothes should also be organised, like toys. But it clothes storage should be as minimalist as to not take too much off of the playing space.

This is where the IKEA STUVA comes in. You can store their everyday clothes and their Sunday best inside the STUVA/FRITIDS wardrobe. It is quite small and sturdy so it can squeeze just about anywhere enough for your child not to notice. For small items such as hats, underwear, and socks, the  STUVA chest of 2-drawers comes in handy.

Scissors, Papers, and Rocks

Once your toddler reaches the age of four, they’ll have a new take on things. They can now be taught how to write, read, and make various forms of art. Once you give them access to crayons, their very first canvas would be their bedroom walls.

Not if you can help it. The IKEA MALA collection sees to it that your child can be the next Picasso while not damaging any furniture. The struggle of every child is how to let their emotions be known. The same can also be said about art. If you do not want gangster graffiti on your walls, your child must have a virtually endless supply of paper. The MALA drawing paper roll is just what every aspiring artist needs. It is also a fix for you not to turn into the Vincent Van Gogh of parenthood.

Another great way to keep your toddler occupied is with the MALA easel board and chalks. Because nothing is more satisfying to a child than making something, and having the ability to erase it. Only to make something better. We, the parents, can only wish everything is that easy.

When your child starts to read, she will need somewhere comfortable to sit. The STUVA bench with toy storage is one such example. And as time goes by, they will need something to read and write, like the FLISAT children’s table and chairs.

Like we have established in the beginning, parenting is such a satisfying, if not tiring, profession. You must cherish every moment you spend with your children because it would not be long when they can organise, read, and write on their own. Which means you’ll have to have the STUVA loft bed combo before long.
