Room Transformations: Dusty Garage to Colorful Workspace
A garage is a luxury often taken for granted. Not all people with homes have one. Some people dream of owning a home with a garage. But what if you have one but you don’t really use it to shelter a car? The most popular answer is: storage for old things, like an attic. The sky’s the limit when it comes to room possibilities. One such example is Chloe, a prop designer. She had her garage transformed as her workspace. And we are going to tell you all about it.
Garages are often windowless boxes that don’t really coerce creativity. First things first. Paint al the walls, and the ceiling, white. Since light doesn’t always penetrate its walls, white will give it the much needed brightness. It also emanates the spirit of a blank canvas. White is clean, white means you can then do whatever you want with it.
“My daughters love coming into my studio to watch me work and borrow things. My eldest is always dreaming and drawing, imagining little scenes that she photographs, just like I do.”
Designing the room, she placed her HATTEFJALL swivel chair and LINNMON/LERBERG table near the door to get as much outside light as possible. For detail oriented projects which need more light, the FORSA work lamp is perfect. Perfect for the worktable is the RASKOG trolley as you can bring your tools anywhere easily. Chloe has daughters and they might also be into arts and props. Good thing though, they can easily reach the SVALSTA nest of tables to work her craft.
“Having furniture on wheels means it’s easy to move around if I’m working on a bigger project. The break-out space is where I lay out works in progress, and the kids use it to do their crafts.”
Displaying finished projects, or on-going ones, the MOSSLANDA picture ledge is a great place to display them. Also a great place to hang tools she uses would be the SKADIS pegboard. From there she can view how the project looks or if there is anything missing.
Best we leave it to Chloe for the conclusion of this creative garage workspace: “I was drawn to this house because of the garage,” says Chloé. “When you work from home, it’s nice to go to a different space to work, and then leave it at the end of the day.”
